Because you cannot create a profitable company off selling dog or cat meat. Why do you think horse meat and shark meat is so profitable?

Big animal = money.

It's also a matter of the stigmatism behind women having to look a certain way to please men. It's been taught through generations that it is okay to eat certain things, while other things, it's not. As well as their treatment hiding in the shadows. 

There is humane ways to kill a cow/pig/chicken; and to house, breed, and keep them. But those methods aren't implicated into mass production because :

1. There is few laws protecting their welfare

2. Most people don't know about their treatment/ do not care

3. There's so much money in the meat industry, why change what makes money. 

It's a huge fucked up accepted concept nationwide. I will gladly eat a burger any day of the week. But the treatment and slaughter of the animals, should be important and humane. Humans have grown their civilization off hunting, as well as their gardens. Mass media, accepted culture/ behavior, and big business has destroyed any need for decent killing or housing of these animals because people simply do not care as long as money is being made. 

Yeah, a little pig is cute to own, but it's also cute to ingest as well. I agree with the (more humane way of) killing of the animal, but not the treatment of them beforehand.

This actually made no sense but you get what I mean.
